I first came across Laura's blog months ago when Kimmie from Sugar and Dots mentioned Project Hope.

Laura's heart is the BIGGEST I have ever seen. She is an admirable person whom I have really grown to respect and love dearly. The drive and passion in this lady is Amazing and her shop has the cutest jewelry

In one sentence, tell us about yourself?

I'm wife to my polar opposite and perfect balance, mama to 3 kiddos who keep my days busy and heart full, lover of Jesus, caffeine and cookie dough!

How did you start Project Hope? Tell us more, for readers that are unfamiliar.

I began Project Hope out of a desire to offer hope to other mom's who have lost a baby. I was given a memory box in the hospital when I lost my daughters at 20 and 24 weeks. Those boxes meant so much and still do. They symbolized hope and a future to me. I wanted to be a part of doing that for someone else. How do you prioritize your time?

I just try to keep a reign on where I spend my time and how. My relationship with the Lord is first, when I start my mornings off in His word and quiet time with Him, the rest of the day just flows better. I try not to put too much pressure on myself to get everything done in one day and more importantly I take the time to just be present where I am, especially when it involves my kids. I want to remember these precious years with them.

What is your favorite item in your shop, Splendor?

It changes frequently but the "heart of hope" bracelets are one of my favorite items. I'm a stickler for aqua and then the small bronze heart charm is perfect hanging from the chain. I love it.

What is your Favorite thing to do?

I LOVE to decorate. I love dreaming up projects and then seeing them through. I find it very fulfilling.Why and how did you start blogging?I started my blog when I was pregnant with my 3rd child, Mia Glory. We had just lost her twin, and I felt the Lord wanted me to share my heart and my journey... allowing my faith to rise, and others to be encouraged. Now, I just hope I leave my readers with a little more joy, hope or love when they leave my page. I share all kinds of things from my heart, to my family, decorating, and everything in between.

What is your personal favorite blog to read?

Oh man that's hard. I love to read a few different ones for different reasons. But I will say the one blog that most inspired me to start sharing my own story, was Angie Smiths "Bring the Rain." If you have never read her story, you should. It is both heart breaking and inspiring.

I would offer you coffee and if you accepted I would have to ask my Hubs to make it because I don't know how. I would also offer you a Dr. Pepper, since that's the only soda I drink, and if you accepted I would sequel inside and hope to be BFFs

Istarted blogging in 2006 when our son was born. My blog was dedicated to hismilestones. You can still view these posts through my archives. Sometimes I gothrough and look at how far I've come as a blogger. I starting to change theway I blogged this year and it's been amazing.

Isee you want to open an Etsy shop. What will you be selling? Also,why have you decided on Etsy?

I'mso excited about opening my own shop. I will be selling jewelry, headbands, andtotes. The totes can be customized to match your blog and style. I am stillunsure with etsy. Some people love it and others are telling me to sellelsewhere. I'd love your opinions.

Why I chose Creative Estates!!!

If you are on twitter, you will know that most of the conversations happening these days are about Blog Conferences.
My initial reaction was I am not ready.Not ready to meet the fabulous women I chat with on twitter and facebook, fabulous women that leave inspiring comments on my blog, and lastly, the fabulous women that send emails just checking in.Hmmm....Maybe I am ready.

So after reading through the websites, I was pretty much dead set on Creative Estates.

I mean seriously, the home that it is being held at is more than Gorgeous and the price is unbelievable!It was definitely a bonus that Arizona is within driving distance :)

And then all the buzz about Snap Conference had me conflicted.One night I even convinced myself that I was going to Snap instead of Creative Estates because I knew more people that were going AND the Queen Bee Market is there. I talked to the Hubs and he was on board, but there was something that I still was unsure about....enough to not buy my ticket right then and there.

Here are the questions I asked myself that lead to my final decision:1. What am I looking to get out of a blog conference?2. Am I truly ready to make this leap?3. Is my blog and shop ready for this next step?4. Am I going to be comfortable?5. How much will it cost?
It ends up that although I think I am ready to start this adventure, I am not ready to get lost in the shuffle and feel overwhelmed. Creative Estates is appealing because there is a attendee limit which leads me to believe it will be more intimate, more relationship building, more like a girls weekend of fun.I am beyond excited for the line up of teachers Shealynn, Linda, Ashley, Ilene, AshleyAmazing women that I can learn a TON from. And living in a house with them for 3 days...SOLD!
After breaking out the costs for Snap and Creative Estates - it turns out that because of the location and having the registration include lodging, Creative Estates was going to be more than half the cost of me going to Snap. Now, if you have been reading my blog, you will know that the hubs was unemployed from Nov-this week, so finances are a HUGE deal.
At this point, I have established that: 1. I am looking to build relationships and gain knowledge while having fun! 2.Yes, I am ready to make this next step! 3. Yes, I think my blog is ready for this and I am hoping to come out inspired to re-stock my shop! 4. I will definitely be more comfortable driving to a house rather than flying.5. Creative Estates is half the price of Snap for us.
I think for my first "conference" this is Perfect. I would LOVE to attend Snap(hopefully next year!), but for this year, it really boiled down to cost and what I think I will benefit more from...being realistic for once! I am not ready to swim in the ocean, so for this year I will stick with the lake. Every person is in a different place with their blog and shop, so it is up to you to decide the better fit.
I wrote this to hopefully allow others who are conflicted as well, gain more clarity. For me I realized that it wasn't about going to the conference that had all the biggest names presenting, it was about being realistic to my goals, my future, and myself. I want to build friendships and more importantly I want to be able to have one on one conversations with the teachers to gain the most knowledge I can.

The truth about Postpartum (Part 2)

The hubs and the lillady became BFF and it was such a joy to watch them bond, but my heart wasbreaking over the loss of the relationship I had with my lil lady.

I made the decisionto transition to formula after 3 months so that I could slowly get back intothe routine of balancing being mommy and work. I was NOT ready to go back to work. In fact, I would still cry randomly and felt completely out of control.

But I had to go back, so I went...still amess...still in another world...and still unhappy.

I went along in myday to day acting like everything was ok and things were getting better, butinside I felt like I was screaming to get out of my own skin.

I had several peoplereach out and ask why I distanced myself, why I never responded to emails,phone calls or texts...but I never responded.

I was embarrassed andashamed.

How did I become oneof those weak women???

I didn’t want to letanyone in my world

After about 6 monthsI was not improving. In fact, my usuallymild anxiety was stronger, more intense and in full effect. I was now being controlled by my anxiety anddepression.

Flash forward to July2011, the lil man is almost 10 months old and things are more manageable. We have a routine set in place. We wereadjusted and settled.

Yet, I was still inthe same dark place.

The hubs and I wereheading up north to a good friends wedding on the weekend of 4^th ofJuly

And this is where Iam extremely Grateful I married my best friend.

It was this weekendwhere he took my hand in the car and looked me in the eye and said

“I think you need tosee someone. You are not getting anybetter.”
A huge sigh of relief overtook my body.

He was concerned. He recognized I hadn’t been myself for 10LONG months. He knew I was strugglingand he cared enough to tell me.

I can’t imagine howhard it must be to tell someone you love those words.

When we came backhome, I scheduled an appointment to see someone.

Since I knew I wasgoing to be a basket case, I decided to have the Hubs write down what hewitnessed during my “episodes” and to document my behavior.

When I got to the droffice I was crying and a huge mess

Admitting defeat isnot an easy thing to do.

I handed her theletter from the Hubs, sat on the paper table and continued to cry.

She said this wascommon and most definitely associated with my hormones as a result of thebirth. As much as this eased my brain, Istill wanted it fixed.

She prescribedmedication.

The hubs and I areusually against using meds for various reasons, but we both recognized thatthis was necessary for the interim.

I was able to relax. Totake a step back. To enjoy the smallmoments with kiddos. To gain control of myself and my emotions. And to be the mom I was and desperately wanted to be.

Although I am still awork in progress I can honestly say that I am finally feeling like myself.

I stopped taking themedication.

I am happy and I am so incredibly in love with my kiddos andmy hubs.

This is experiencewas TOUGH. There was nothing I couldhave done to prevent it. It hit like aton of bricks. And now it makes perfect sense. This is a serious issue and tonsof women experience postpartum. This is not something made up and its definitelyNOT for weak women. This is just something uncontrollable that happens.

So this is my apologyto those that were affected by my behavior in 2011. I am sorry for ignoring the calls, texts andemails. I am sorry for always having anexcuse to not show up to an event. I amsorry I was quick to snap. I am sorry Iwas not very social. I am sorry if Imade you feel like you did something wrong because chances are you didn't. I am sorry for the person I became.

I thank you forsticking by me. I thank you for checkingin on me. I thank you for continuing toinvite me out and about. I thank you forcaring. I thank you for understanding. I thank you for having patience. I thank you for accepting ALL of me. I thank you for all the love youpossess.
And thank you for being YOU.

I decided to write this to give anyone going through this hope and support. I wanted other moms to know that this is something that just happens and you are not alone. If you need an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on or any advice, I am here.

Sunday Weigh-In, Music Mondays (The Sounds) and Other Updates

This week was crazy.In case some of you don't know, my 9-5 day job is at a local non-profit that is funded by the Federal government. Our contracts are up for re-bidding, so the next few months we will be knee deep in grant writing.I know for most of you this is me speaking a foreign language,but I wanted to keep you up to speed on why I may be MIA every now and then.
Sunday Weigh In:This week was horrible in regards to my "diet." I worked 91 hours in 7 days AND my work had catered lunch everyday this week. On top of that, there was cake and cookies brought in and a fridge stocked up with Dr. Pepper to keep all of us going.So, I am just going to pretend this week didn't happen.I didn't get on the scale.I am excited to get back on track this week.This is a good example...we all have weak moments and fall off track, butI am truly inspired to get back on track!!!

Hi,I'm name is Heather! I blog over at Finding Beauty in the Ordinary-- a lifestyleblog about life with my best friend & husband of 5 years, Joshua, and ourGerman Shepherd puppy, Hartley. Istarted actively blogging in August of this year. Before that, I blogged hereand there but nothing consistent. How did you become Miss Casey's assistant?

Istumbled upon Casey's blog in late July of 2011 and fell in love, of course.She's raw, vulnerable and transparent: a quality I think most of us love abouther. After she went through the miscarriage in September, God put her on myheart like crazy. I can't really explain it, but I just felt compelled to askif she had any help. I could only imagine that she was literally drowning inemails, etc. She had just attended BlogSugar and was encouraged to ask for helpbut hadn't yet. It was a perfect fit. She's become one of my best friends.

Ilove your optimism and your ability to remain positive, even during the roughtimes. How do you manage to do that?

You're sosweet! I would definitely say that maintaining a positive outlook even during some of the really roughtimes is 100% a result of God's grace in my life. And having totrust that everything happens for a reason and that the end result will beworth it. Knowing that trials make me stronger. I wouldn't take back any of thehard times-- I'm a totally different person now. That's what pain does to us;it makes us a person of more depth.

The truth about Postpartum (Part 1)

I first want to state that this post is strictly my personal experience and belief. Every person experiences things differently and I just wanted to share the not so pretty side of things.So here we go...

Prior to having kids,when I heard women talk about postpartum depression I thought it was something thatwas made up for attention. I mean reallyhow can you all of a sudden be depressed after having a baby. Didn’t make sense to me.

Then as I was gettingolder with friends and family members having kids and hearing that some ofthose women experienced postpartum, I instantly thought well maybe they arejust weak.

It still didn’t makesense to me.

Then I got pregnantwith the lil lady. And I was one ofthose women that had a very easy pregnancy and an even easier birth! I was overthe moon in love. She was perfect. Shewas an excellent baby and even though I was tired, I was able to keep my cool.

The hubs and Idecided to try for another lil one and we were blessed to get prego rightaway. From the moment the stick turnedpositive I was sicker than a Dog for 18 weeks straight. It was horrible. By thetime I was starting to feel better was just about the time I was growinguncomfortably big. This pregnancy was the Pits. I was excited for our lil man to arrive and I was definitelydone being prego.

Once again we were blessedwith an easy and quick delivery of a very healthy lil man. He was also perfect, but this time I felt different.

I didn’t have thatglow that new mothers should have. Thehubs and I decided that it was best for him to stay with the lil lady at homewhile I had one on one time with the lil man in the hospital.

I was alone. I was exhausted. And I cried...A lot.

This time around Iwas a Mess. A Hot Mess.

Once we arrived athome I thought things would improve, but with time they only got worse. I couldn’t keep up with his appetite, so Istarted pumping after every feeding to increase my supply and while thatworked, my whole day was spent on the couch either feeding or pumping and notbeing able to spend any time with my lil lady.

I was struggling.

I decided to strictlypump from that moment on and that was working Great, but my milk was decreasingrather rapidly. I was stressed,emotional, exhausted...like I said, A Hot Mess.

I was feeling extremelyresentful. I was taken away from my lillady, my hubby, my routine, my sleep, the outside. And all I kept thinking was how madly in loveI was with my lil man, but I felt so angry.

I cried a lot. ALLTHE TIME. I am very grateful the hubswas at home helping me out. My hormones were all over the place. I was in a different world. I was unhappy.

Even though I waswithin arms distance of my lil lady, I missed her. Even though my hubs was always within reach,I missed him. I missed my day to dayroutine. I missed the outside world.
I was getting frustrated.
The sadness and anger was becoming overwhelming.
It was replacing the joy and happiness.

I thought as time passed that things would get better, but there was no end in sight. I felt like I had no control over my emotions. I knew I was acting irrational and yet, I couldn't stop or change any of my behavior. I was powerless.

It was finally starting to make sense.

I was planning on re-opening today! It is not going to happen. I have been so utterly swamped at my job, that I have had no time for my crafting. Here is the BIG bummer - that means little to no Valentines wreaths this year :(

This post was inspiredby 3 people I saw this past week/weekend.

They are 3 of my bestfriends.

I don’t see or talkto them daily or sometimes even weekly.

We try for monthly.

When we hang out itis like no time has passed.

They know me betterthan I know myself.

The push me to bebest person I can possibly be.

Now, I am not goingto lie.

There were fallouts.

There were tears.

There was sadness.

There were explanationsand apologies.

And there are newbridges being built in the place of old broken ones.

They forgive.
They inspire.

They understand.

They love.
They don't judge.

They trust.

They care.

They influencepositively.

I most definitely wouldconsider them Family.

They are the people Ichoose to be around.

I am not going to lie...this week was TOUGH!

This week I have lost 3 pounds!I am actually really surprised by that number, but hey, I will take it :)
I know some of you have asked what I am doing, so I thought I would detail out my plan.My goal is 1200 calories.Thanks to Myfitnesspal calculating them is pretty easy.If I end my day at 1200 or below, I put .50 in my jar.
I compiled a sample of what my meal plan looks like:Breakfast: (175 calories)1 piece of toast .5 tbsp of butter 1 large egg over easy
Snack: (80 calories)2 Cuties
Lunch: (375 calories)1 salad consisting of:2.5 cups of Salad mix6 grape tomatoes1.5oz. of carrot chips1/8 cup of sliced almonds1/4 of a red bell pepper1/2 cup of cucumber3 oz. of chicken2 tbsp. of Kraft Red Bell Pepper Italian Dressing with Parmesan7.5 oz can of Dr. Pepper
Snack: (140 calories)Nabisco Saltine crackers - whole grain topped with sea salt - 10 crackers
Dinner: (507 calories)4oz of Boneless, skinless chicken breast beaded and baked1 cup of cooked carrots1 ear of corn boiled without salt or butter1/2 cup of fresh green beans1 Dinner Roll
My friend at work and I decided that around 230pm everyday we were going to head to the gym downstairs and take our 30min lunch break by walking on the treadmill. Also most importantly, drink water - I am at about 48oz a day!!!
Total calories for the day was 1277Subtract 30 min walking at a moderate pace burns: 124 caloriesTotal amount of calories: 1153
I don't eat this exact meal everyday, but wanted to give you an idea of how it is possible to eat 1200 calories and remain completely satisfied.
My favorite thing is that I can still eat out anywhere. I always make sure to check out the menu in advance, so that when I head to the restaurant, I know exactly what I am going to order and how many calories it will be. Next Sunday I will do a meal plan that includes healthier options at fast food places. The biggest change I have noticed so far is that I am making smarter, healthier decisions. I cut out all sodas and sweets for the first 3 days to dive in full force. After that I allowed myself 1 7.5 oz can of Dr. Pepper and 1 sweet treat under 100 calories if needed. I load my meals with fruits and veggies and make sure my snacks don't consist of junk. Some days are worse than others. If I know it's a chocolate kind of day, then of course I allow myself a little square of Dove chocolate. Everything in moderation!

Ithas been a very limited part-time job for me over the past year as I've workedfull-time. As I'm getting ready to embark on my life as a SAHM I will hopefullybe able to do a little more or I may be shocked to find out I don't have anytime at all.

How do you come up with newdesigns? What inspires you?

ThingsI see in stores especially new trends. So if I noticed that owls are the inthing then I try to pull an owl into my tees & onesies. Sometimes I justask others for their opinions. I like certain colors & sometimes I thinkthe rest of the world likes those color combos and they don't always. I need toknow other peoples opinions.

Name one thing you love and one conflictabout selling online or blogging?

WhenI started blogging, I started as To Dabble In Design, my attempt tostart crafting more with a little accountability to my blog. Before long itturned into something much more than that. It all started because I had a lotof fun making pillowcase dresses for little girls in Uganda.

I learned to sew in home economics in high school, but hadn't really sewn muchsince. I had so much fun at my first pillowcase party and realized I LOVED tosew! We started having pillowcase parties every month and I even made my twonieces coordinating dresses. I was even inspired to make my nephew coordinatingshorts & an applique tie onesie (my mom finished it).

A few months later I saw an adorable hairband that my niece just had to have,but that I wasn't willing to buy. I studied it, bought the materials, and madeit. The famous hairband that started it all is the one you will often seepaired with my tutus!

I decided to start my own business, Giggles, Glitz & Glam, and thatis when I switched my blog from To Dabble in Design to Giggles, Glitz& Glam! I will blog frequently about crafts but you can expect to see alot about my faith & relationship with God as well.

Any advice for people starting out?

Ok so here's the deal...I am turning 30 this yearThat's rightthe BIG 3-0I have heard that the 30's are your Best yearsand I intend to have a blast and ride this roller coaster of Fun!!!
But I have a problemI need to lose weightand not in that "I weigh 100 pounds and wear size 2" fishing for compliments way.I am dead serious, my belly jiggles when I walk.

I once read this statement below and I believe it summarizes how I feel about Joe Purdy:

I would only like to add that his sound is raw, innocent, loving, natural, genuine and soothing. You can't help to be hooked from the moment you first hear his voice.

I first heard Joe Purdy a couple years ago playing in the background of this commercial.

I hunted and searched to find out who sang that song and who HE was.

I even recruited my hubby and I am so glad I found his music.

I won't go into detail about 2011...if you have followed for some time, you will know that we had good times and we had not so good times.I am glad it's 2012Its a time to click the refresh button
For me this year is less about 2012 and more about the fact that I am turning 30!That's quite a big deal.So instead of making all of these "set myself up to fail" goals, I have one main goal and a timeframe.Memorial Day weekend.That's when I am no longer in my 20'sSo my one goal is enter into my 30's feeling the very best that I can, felling genuinely happy, feeling good about the way I look, feeling like I am the best wife and mom I can be.
Here is another short list of things I will be focusing on:More water, less Dr. PepperPainting my nails more often (it makes me feel pretty)Prioritize!Keep growing my hair out (the first time since 6th grade!)Continue date nights with the hubs once a month
We live in Orange County and the past couple days have felt more like Summer than Winter.This is how we have been spending the New Years!!!

You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important

My vacation from work is coming to an end
and to be honest
it didn't feel like a vacation at all!
But as horrible as the the sleepless nights have been,
I feel lucky,
Lucky that I had the time off to be the one to take care of my sick babes,
to be able to attend to their every need,
to be the one to tell the Drs every little thing that seemed "off"
and to be the one to rock them ALL night so that they were comfy enough to get some sleep.

I rented the movie "The Help" the other night!
Holy smokes I cried almost the entire movie.
I LOVED it!!!

I know as women, most of us struggle with self image and feeling as if we fulfilling our lives.
The part of the movie that hit me the hardest was when Aibileen took that chubby little girl by the face and repeated "You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important."
I Die!
Perspective!
These 3 statements put everything in perspective for me.
I not only need to tell myself this everyday, but it is my duty as a parent to make sure my daughter is feeling fulfilled....felling loved...and feeling that she is kind, smart and important.

I hope you all have a very safe and wonderful New Years!!!

Merry Christmas and Hello Sickness!!!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas filled with Love and Family!Sorry I have been MIA from Social Media for the past week - I have been trying to make the most of my time of with the kiddos, but unfortunately they have gotten pretty darn sick.In the past week I have made 1 trip to the ER and 2 trips to Urgent Care. We have dealt with Croup (borderline pneumonia) in our little man, a double ear infection in our lil lady accompanied by Hives, a constant underlying cold and tonight the lil man just got diagnosed with an ear infection. In short...I haven't slept in a week, so all the plans I had for my time off work have been thrown out the windowHello, Amoxicillin!
Even though we spent Christmas Eve day in Urgent Care, we had such a Great Christmas!(just remember in the pics below, both kiddos were sick)

Christmas on the Farm

We LOVE visiting the farm.I am so glad that Dave has family up in San Luis Obispo and yes his Aunt and Uncle live on a FARM!!!!After all the junk that's happened in the past couple months, we decided to head up there before Christmas for a mini vacation.

The drive up was Horrible!We usually drive at night so the kids can sleep, but for some reason we decided to drive during the day...NOT a good idea.It took us twice as long to get up there.We anticipated staying a couple days, but the kids were both not feeling well, so we ended up staying for only one night.

Lil man LOVED watching the chickens and running on the grass

We played on the "playground" and went down the slide

We looked for pirates and buried our treasure

Daddy took the kiddos on the ATV around the farm :) -The lil lady kept yelling "Go Faster!"

We made chocolate crinkle cookies!

We went to the Farmers Market for some outside fun and warm Kettle Korn!

and most importantly we were in the Best company.There is something about SLO that feels like home. It is the one place I would move without much thought. I love the small town feel, the slower pace, the old look and downtown feel :)
Like I have said many times before, things happen for a reason. Now I know why we ended up coming home WAY early...I was in the ER with our lil man about 2 hours after arriving home last night.I woke up to hearing him through the monitor struggling to breathe.One of the scariest moments of my life.I think I made it to the hospital in record time.I wish I could say that we were seen rather quickly, but we weren't. A couple chest x-rays, a steroid injection, a second opinion from a different dr (the first doc wasn't sure if he had pneumonia or Croup), a breathing treatment and 3 hours later - we finally came back home at 530am.I am SO ready for Christmas!

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? I have a simple palate - Mashed Potatoes!
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child? Christmas morning! My oldest brother was always the first to wake up and he would come jump on my bed to wake me up.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Growing up we opened gifts from mom and dad the on the eve...now my kids open up matching jammies

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? I dread it, the Hubs loves it.
12. Can you ice skate? I think I can...but the real question is, am I good? NO!13. Do you remember your favorite gift? My first Bike from my parents and my handmade dollhouse from my Grandparents!

Before we jump into the lovely Ingrid...Do you like the new header????I have been wanting an image that is "Me" and shows off my products.The shoes above were my wedding shoes and I am still head over heels in love with them.And the yellow flower is my signature statement.so I asked the hubs to take a couple pictures in our backyard....and viola!

On Friday I received an unexpected gift from a co-worker for the holidays and I love everything about it!

It is a small puzzle piece that on one side says "I am" and the other side says "JOY"It has reminded me to find Joy in everything, even situations that seem Horrible.Thank you so much Amanda!I needed this more than you know :)

Ok, now let's get to the music part...Ingrid Michaelson is JOY! Pure Joy!

Her music is uplifting, raw and emotional.It is music you can relate to, music that can take you into a place of Joy.
As I have said before, the Hubs and I are bug music people, so on our wedding day we handpicked every song. Since our relationship was not traditional, I didn't want to walk down the aisle to Canon or any other predictable song...instead I chose Ingrid.And it was perfect.
Cambria's Favorite song is "Be Ok" - we blast it and sing as loud as possible!

And I am completely in LOVE with this song...one of the best covers I have ever heard.

I would have to say mybest sellers are the bottlecap bows as well as our Simply Adorable line (bowswith clay centers) I think it's because they can be done with your lil' onesfavorite characters as well as made to be very unique.

(My daughter would love to wear these everyday, so stinkin cute!)

Starting the New Year before the New Year

I am one of those people that likes to do things "NOW"especially if I have the time and the means to do so...Cambria is exactly the same way, Once we have checked something off the list, we are onto the next.

Music Mondays: Eric Herman (kids edition)

Since there are quite a few Mamas that read this blog, I decided to mix in the Music Mondays with a few kid editions.

Our house LOVEs Eric Herman

It is hard to find Good kid music that parents can tolerate...seriously, Eric has mastered this!!!

When I first started blogging I did a post about our dance party mornings, You can read about those here.

Instead of our kids being glued to watching tv or videos, we LOVE that these songs are educational, funny and encourage the kids to Dance.

You should see the moves these kids come up with!

This song is one of our favorites - Cambria laughs so hard every time and when it's over she says "that man really doesn't know his animals!" The plus side - it's Educational :)

My kids LOVE this song. It is so simple and sweet and tells a Great story.

I could seriously post every song on here...that's how much we LOVE this music. In my previous post, I added the video to "Dance like an Animal" which is a daily MUST in this house...so this video below is equally loved.

Tell us a little about yourself:

Iam a 32 year old mom, wife, teacher, animal and nature lover. I enjoybeing outdoors with my boxer and daughter, hiking in the woods. I am not a morning person I am a night owl who relies on vanillachai to get me through the day.

Have you always been a crafty person or did youtake classes to learn your trade?

Inever thought of myself as crafty, but did enjoy art projects and makingthings. I think being a teacher allowed me to be creative and crafty aswell, which is what I was doing full time before becoming a mom. My dadis an excellent artist so I must have gotten some of his genes in this categoryand my mom was the one who sewed when I was younger. I got intoscrapbooking in my 20’s and then sewing when my daughter was 2 monthsold. She was a very messy eater so I had my mom give me a refreshercourse on the sewing machine so I could make bibs. She taught me in highschool how to make skirts so I picked it up quickly.

Is this your hobby, full time job or part timejob?

Thisused to be something I did during my daughter’s nap time as a way for me tode-stress. Now, it is something I do for fun on the side but would loveto make enough money to stay teaching part time.

How do you come up with new designs? Whatinspires you?

Iam not really sure how I come up with new designs, they kinda just pop in myhead. I just cut and go. Then I draw out the animal on paper tocreate the pattern. Sometimes, I have customers or friends that will askif I can make something, so I give it a try. That is where the penguinand fish came from. My daughter inspires everything. I started withbibs and burp cloths when she was 2 months old and as she has grown, so have myproducts. They tend to match the stage of life she is in. I wentfrom bibs to blankies, changing pads, hair clips, fairy wands, to last summer…plushowls and birds (her newest fave)! They have become my favorite to makeand I find myself hearting all the owl stuff on Etsy and we both point out owlstuff in the stores. It has taken over. What almost four year oldasks to have an owl birthday party or be an owl for Halloween? That wouldbe my daughter! I couldn’t be happier or prouder. She can’t wait tostart sewing. She is always asking to make an owl on the sewingmachine. We just recently created an item that we can maketogether…crinkle owlies! A small minky dot owl with fleece body parts,stuffed with polyester fiberfill and a secret ingredient. She came upwith the name and the secret ingredient…fruit snack trash! She eats thefruit snacks, washes the empty fruit snack bag, then she stuffs it into theowlie! She thinks it is the coolest thing ever. Eat fruit snacks,reuse trash to save the Earth (as she says), and help mommy make something.

What item in your shop is your bestseller? Why doyou think?

Theowlets. I am guessing because those big eyes just suck you in-I have toadmit they are quite cute! I also think it is because the buyer cancustomize it by choosing the colors of their choice. I also make owletsto match holidays and other themes.

Where do you see yourself, your shop, your blogin 5 years?

Oooh,that puts me at 37, hmmm…well the family plan was for me to return to work fulltime as a teacher, so I guess that would mean I would be back to teaching fulltime. Hopefully, 5^th grade math, that is my favorite age groupand favorite subject because it was my least favorite subject in school. I certainly hope I will be able to balance everything so I can continue makingowls as well. My daughter will be in 4^th grade-wow scarythought and since what I make is based on her, whooo knows what I will becreating then.

What is your favorite blog to follow?

Scene of Sublime l absolutely love the lady behind this blog. She has helped mybusiness in so many ways. If you ever need an idea for color combos forowls her and her family are the pro owl designers. Her blog is veryinformative and is entertaining to read. She shares everything fromrecipes to do it yourself home décor.

Any advice for people starting out?

Iwould say just go for it and don’t stress about when am I going to get a sale,is it worth it, am I wasting my time and money? Just have fun, join ateam, and meet some really great, inspiring, and encouraging people. Believe in yourself and your craft!

I can't remember the first time I heard Regina, but I can tell you she has been on my most played for YEARS!

I have seen her twice live and HOLY SMOKES, this girl is beyond Amazing.

Here is the situation that just happened:

The hubs is gone this weekend fulfilling his reserve duty.

The kids and I went to the mall to walk around

As I pull into our driveway I notice there are quite a few parked cars around our house....

And there is a man walking from our back gate to the front of the house

Why the heck was this creeper scoping out our house?

As I get out of my car, he approaches me with his business card and asks

"Can I look in your house"

I wanted to scream "UMMM....NNNNOOOOO!!!" but instead said politely "no thank you, we are not the owners, so call the number on the sign and they can help you out."

He continues to pressure me...

"It will be real quick, we just want to have a little look"

And AGAIN I state:

"Unfotunately I am not comfortable with that, we do not own this house, call the number on the sign and I am sure they can help you out."

Meanwhile I have 2 very hungry and cranky kids in the car sreaming...

but I am not going to take them out until this CREEP leaves.

So, once again he asks for a quick look around

and I AGAIN said:

"This house isn't even listed yet and won't be until Feb at the earliest, the sign is just precautionary if the owners have to sell it, so I do not feel comfortable showing you my home...please leave."

And with that he said, "ok" and got in his HUGE truck and waited until I was going to open the front door to get a sneak peek at the inside.

Luckily, I has my suspicions, so I sat in my car in the driveway until he left...about 10 minutes later...trying to explain to my very inquisitive daughter who that man was, why I was yelling, and why we weren't going inside.

When he drove away, the 3 other cars that were parked around our house followed him up the street...4 cars of Shady McShadesters?!?!??! Expecting me to just let you waltz in my house?!?!?

SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?

What happened to common courtesy?

Prioritizing time is certainly a challenge. However, I know thatduring the day, my boys have me as I know that in the near future they're notgoing to 'need' me as much ... so I'm embracing and cherishing this time withthem. My nights are generally filled with sewing, blogging, and answeringemail. Sure, I try to fit some of this in during the day, but the nightsare for working at this time in my schedule.

Why did you start blogging and how did you start?

I started blogging after attending The Creative Connection event lastSeptember. Blogging has been something I'd wanted to do for a long time. The creative people that I met at that conference inspired me even moreto just go do it. So I did. I started on Wordpress.com and quicklyrealized that there were limits. So, eventually, I got my own domain nameand am with Wordpress.org.

Nameone thing you love and one conflict about selling online or blogging?

I love the blogging community {I guess that's one, but I could go on andon about what I love about blogging}! A conflict with selling online forme is getting noticed. There are a ton of shops {which I LOVE} out therethat are so unique and stand out and I want to be one of them! *one day*

What item in your shop is your bestseller? Why do you think?

My best seller at the moment is my iPad cover. I just won the 2011 Denver Moms in Business Unite Inventor Showcase withmy iPad cover and I donated a cover for a HUGE online giveaway ... so I think acombination of these two things drove sales up.

Wheredo you see yourself, your shop, your blog in 5 years?

I see my 'everything' being very prosperous in 5 years. Everythingright now, in this moment, is just perfect as far as 'busy-ness'. Ifeverything goes to plan, the boys will be both in school full time in a fewyears and my business will have been built up to where I'm really busy then. God will provide for whatever is to happen in the future for my'everything'.

It's ok to Cry

This was out in our front yard this morning.

It was unexpected with no warning and
I broke down

We have talked about having to move...but it never was a reality until today.

I have watched the Hubs apply for countless jobs online and book 2-3 interviews a day for the past 2 weeks and I am so proud of him for getting out there.

I have been strong and positive about our situation for my hubs and the kids, but today I broke down.

The reality is...if he doesn't find anything solid, we have to be out by Feb 1st.

Even though we understood this, this sign makes it real.

And I don't fault our landlords for putting this up...

it just was hard to walk out and see.

This is a constant reminder that we are struggling and that our hopes of buying our own house one day are now delayed.

It is what it is...We have hope that this is going to be short lived and something much greater is in the works, but only time will tell.

I also received my first mediocre review on one of my products and I would be lying if I said it wasn't a HUGE blow. The hubs says that I am not going to please everyone and to take it with a grain of salt. And I guess my problem is I think people are generally nice, if I was unhappy I would have e-mailed directly instead of blasting it where everyone can see it, but maybe I am the one that is too nice.

The are bigger problems to face in this world that this...finding a new place to live and taking care of my kiddos...that is and always will be my number 1 priority.

Once again it is what it is....

Time for a ReBirth

This past weekend was a whirlwind.

Between the Thanksgiving feasts and Black Friday deals I was wiped out!

We ended our weekend with a ReBirth...

Hunter was Baptized!

Remember in September when I put in my resignation at work, yet something told me I needed to stay, so I did?

Remember how a couple weeks after that our 2 week road trip to Mississippi over Christmas to visit my brother fell through?

Remember how a week after that our trip to Arizona to ride the Polar Express fell through as well?

Remember how my husband got laid of the week before Thanksgiving?

Isn't it funny how HIS plan isn't always YOUR plan???

After much reflection I realize why I needed to stay at my job and why our very expensive trips were suddenly just not going to work out....

There was a bigger plan in motion.

HE wanted us to be taken care of and able to stay afloat when my hubby's income disappeared.

Thank you God!

We are doing ok at the moment.

So this weekend ended on a High note.

Hunter was finally Baptized!

It was a time for us as a family to re-group and realize that we are ready for His plan...

Wherever that takes us :)

The past week has been quite difficult with many ups and downs.
We are making HUGE adjustments now that we are only down to one income.
Although we have faith my hubs will find a job sooner rather than later, we tend to be conservative with our money.

When did you open your Etsy shop andwhy did you decide on Etsy?

Weactually do not have an Etsy shop right now. We use Etsy to purchase some ofour supplies however only sell via our Facebook page. We first opened a page acouple of years ago. Not really knowing what we were doing, Facebook not beingas popular then, and other factors we decided to close that page down. Weopened this new page on July 22, 2011 and have gained the loyal following ofpeople as well as other vendors, 1102 total as of right now! We are superexcited at the success we have had thus far and can't wait to see what thecoming months as well as the future bring to us.

Wedecided on Facebook because it promotes actual interaction where as other siteslike eBay, WebStore ect do not. We can actually talk to our customers and havedone just that and made several new friends along the way.

Do you on sell strictly online or doyou also do local fairs, etc?

As of right nowwe only sell online but we hope to be able to do some craft fairs in the nearfuture :)

Name one thing you love and oneconflict about selling online?

We love ourloyal fans "likers" and the interaction we get with them. The onlyreal conflict we have found is failure to pay invoices. It really is likehaving an actual brick and mortar store. Customers come and customers go. Theylook around, buy something if they see something they like, and then leave andgo on to the next.

What item in your shop is yourbestseller? Why do you think?

For me it is mybows! Simply because mommies love bows lol. For Linda it's a combination of alot of things. really just depends on who's buying that day, and for Terry it'shis art. People have a love for different things, so we offer a wide variety ofproducts.

Any advice for people starting out?

My advice isthis, Don't take crap from anyone! It is your stoe, run it how you want to. Ifa customer fails to pay for an item or invoice ban that user immediately. Havepatience! Patience truly is a virtue! Sales will not happen overnight butgiven the right amount of promoting, communicating, ect you will start to seesales!

Happy Thanksgiving and the Joys of Black Friday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday

Thanksgiving Dinner is one of my all time favorite meals...ever!

I think I could live on mashed potatoes and Dr. Pepper

I am usually not one to venture out on Black Friday.

I actually think it's quite ridiculous how some people get, BUT due to the recent news of my hubby being jobless....a Mama's gotta do what a Mama's gotta do!

We are pinching pennies in this house and every bit of savings helps.

I checked out all the ads the week of so that I could devise a plan of attack.

I recruited my mom so that we could tag team the long lines and maximize our chances!

First stop: Toy R Us

We arrived at 8:30pm for the 9pm opening and the line was pretty LONG.

They announced the first 500 people would be let in and then from that point on it would be monitored according to how many came out of the shop.

Guess what number we were...

495!!!!!

We were worried, but 30 minute wait and we were IN!

Luckily I knew the layout of the store, so I thought I had a fair advantage.

My mom and I split up and when I gathered most of what I wanted, I noticed the line to check out was growing at a ridiculous rate.

I hopped in line and called my mom.

The people in the line were so incredibly NICE!

I was pleasantly surprised.

I am proud of Toys R Us for being so insanely organized!

It wasn't the running, pushing and mean spirited event I had imagined.

End result: We both got everything on our lists and bonus - SAVED more than we ended up paying!

SCORE - 7 items for $60, Yes Please!!!!

We were out the door by 10pm - talk about efficiency.

Next stop: Target

Completely different story...

We arrived around 10:30 for the 12pm opening And were pleasantly surprised the line wasn't terrible.

I was freezing.
The protesters were Annoying me.
The people preaching about how I am going to Hell were starting to get on my last nerve.
But that is another story for another day!

I was not prepared to stand in the cold - apparently I wasn't thinking clear.

The people around us weren't very nice.

The store opened and it was CHAOS!

Every cart seemed to have a rather LARGE tv in it.

Nobody was willing to share the aisle.

A lady jammed a blender box in my mom's back because we weren't walking fast enough.

Luckily, we only had a few items to grab and then we were off.

We were lucky enough to snatch everything we came for :)

We were out of Target by 1245am - thank goodness!

Last stop: Kohl's

I don't even want to write about this experience because it was so BAD.

After waiting in line to check out for 45 minutes and not moving more than 2 feet,

we left.

Horrible layout, No organization = FAIL!

We ended our Black Friday shopping arriving home around 230am and deemed it a success!

We were able to get everything we wanted and saved double the amount we paid!

This morning, I went to JoAnn's...

The cut table was Horrendous - I had 60 people in front of me with baskets packed full.

I wanted to leave so bad, but knew I had to stay

My business would benefit!

So I braved out the 2.5 hours in the store and came out saving double the amount I paid.

Success!!!!!

The best part was as I talked with other customers, we shard Etsy selling stories and advice.

I handed out approx 10 business cards to strangers who were interested

AND

as I was showing pictures of my stuff

One girl recognized my wreaths and commented that she knew who I was from Pinterest!!!!

She said she had just re-pinned my Christmas Wreath :)

It is extremely rewarding to know that people LOVE my stuff.

I am so unbelievably thankful for the support!

An Unexpected New Beginning...

Today is supposed to be First in Line Friday

but I need to write about something else instead.

The phone call that changed our lives today.

My hubby got laid off.

There was no notice.

There is no unemployment because he was a 1099 contractor.

There was no severance given.

Today was hard. Things are going to change. We will most likely have to move. Our lifestyle will drastically change. The dance classes and preschool will have to be cut out along with all other extra curricular activities.

Even though this isn't an ideal situation...I will tell why I am thankful:

I am thankful for my job and the flexibility

I am thankful for the 3 years the hubs was able to work from home

I am thankful for all the support from family, friends and strangers

I am thankful for new opportunities

I am thankful that for our "Emergency Fund"

I am thankful for staying afloat during tough times

I crave customer service these days.

We are lacking as a whole in this department.

Generic response emails are the pits.

I get it - we are all busy...but at least personalize the email or send a follow-up.

Anywho, I am off topic.

My goal with Lil Noodle Bug is to never lose sight of customer service.

So...if you live in Orange County, I personally deliver the goods to you.

I want you to be Happy, I want you to feel the personal attention and I just want to get to know YOU!

I met a lady at the market I did that wanted a custom order, so I finished it last night.

Since my day at work consists of back to back meetings all day, I was able to sneak out and make a special trip this morning to personally deliver to her.

She was so incredibly grateful! And she LOVED the flowers!

I felt that I had made the connection with her.

I made the 4 matching flowers for the bed posts :)

On my way back to work,

I stopped at Jamba Juice to grab a smoothie with an immunity boost - since I can't seem to shake this cold.

They accidentally made the bigger size and even though I only paid for the small size, they gave me the BIG one!

Talk about paying it forward.

Today I am thankful for Outstanding Customer Service!

It sounds silly, I know.

But I tend to go back to people/shops that give you attention...that make you feel special.

A Day in the Life

Sometimes I find myself wanting to know more about other bloggers and shop owners typical day to day...

How do all these women juggle their lives?

And most importantly why do we seem to max ourselves out?!?

I thought I would give you all a glimpse into my life.

It's chaotic, unorganized and most of the time we take it minute by minute.

My hubs and I both work full time.

We are extremely blessed that both of our parents are available to watch our kiddos during the day.

Did I mention that my hubs attends night school also?

And that I am trying to start my own crafting business (Lil Noodle Bug!)

So here is a sample breakdown of our normal day to day (this includes weekends)...

between 6-7am

the kids wake up! My hubby is one of those "I am up and ready to go" kinda people....I am one of those "I will hit snooze for 20 minutes and then it takes another 10 to actually get out of bed."

between 7-8am

To say the hubs LOVES breakfast food is an understatement and to say I HATE breakfast food is an understatement. Needless to say, he is the chef in morning.While the kids are sitting down and eating, I get about 20 minutes to get ready for work.

between 8-9am

While the hubs entertains the kiddos, I pack the "Nana Bag" which includes their outfits for the day, shoes, blankies, stuffed animals....anything and everything the lil ones need. Then I pack my lunch and we are out the door headed to my parents house for the drop off.

On Tuesday and Thursdays, After dropping off the lil man...Cambria and I head to her preschool for the 9am drop off!

I work from 9-4pm

It usually ends up being 930-430pm.

4-5pm

Leave work to pick up the kiddos and head home to see the Hubs!

5-7pm

Dinner, Baths, Playtime

(2 days a week the Hubs leaves to go to school)

(Monday the lil lady goes to dance class)

7-8pm

Kiddos get in their jammies and head to bed.

8pm-11pm

Craft time for Me

Homework or Research time for the Hubs

And some tv.

Friday nights are designated Family nights or Date nights!!! You can usually find us at Disneyland this night :)

Somewhere in between the hussle and bussle, the hubs and I find time to talk, shower, sleep and exercise.

So now you know if orders take a little longer to get to you, emails don't get answered right away, twitter and Facebook updates are scarce...my life is crazy right now.

So...I know I am a day late in posting this and I apologize.I have been so insanely busy that I even forgot about my last hair appointment...like...just didn't show up. I am going to have to blame my smart phone for not reminding me. In other words, I have learned to become a professional juggler recently :)

And thanks to Erin Condren - my life will hopefully get a little more organized!!!

I also did my first Market and was quite successful!!!! Thank you to Alissa for inviting me to be part of this amazing Holiday Handmade Market :)

Ok now onto the music....

I picked the artist Franz Ferdinand because in my opinion they are one of the most underrated artists around. You may know them from their hits "Michael" or "Take Me Out" but I think their other songs are far better than the "hits."

Their music is soulful and classy. They tell stories in a way where you just want to keep listening for hours.

My new designs come fromthings I have seen and from my daughter. When I was little I was neverinto dressing myself up but now I want my daughter to be able to dress herselfup and have fun with it.

There are two items thatseem to be my best seller. They are my monkey hat and my footballhat. I think they are the best sellers because they are different and arejust adorable.

Any advice?

My advise would be to justkeep trying and get involved in as many things as you can to get your name outthere. I started a fanpage on facebook, a blog about my website and letpeople at work know what I am selling. My best customers so far are thosethat I work with. You never know where your business will come from.

Defeat is not a good look!

Today I feel defeated

I have been running amarathon the past couple weeks and hit my wall.

The milk has ended upin the cupboard and the bread has been left in the fridge.

My mind has been onthe “next thing I need to do” rather than in the moment.

The hubs and I barelyhave 5 minutes to rant about our days.

We are constantlyrunning from one event to the next.

Our stress levels arehigh and are tempers are quick to flare up.

The Holiday Season

We have a love/haterelationship

It is our busiesttime of year

Every weekend for usis jam-packed until January

And although they areall things that we enjoy doing

It is hard to enjoywhen you are constantly running.

I am exhausted

The hubs is exhausted

The kids have been inlooneyville recently

And it’s only thebeginning...

I have also met some "not so nice" competitive, bring you down ladies
My spirit is low
I LOVE crafting and blogging and it is what I want to do
But sometimes I feel like I don't belong.

I feel like afailure.

I am trying to giveback

I am trying toeducate others about opportunities to feel part of a bigger picture

I know it is my firstfundraising event, but to be honest

It is not going sowell.

I need to be moregrateful

But I am strugglingtoday...

Music Monday: Postal Service

We missed Music Monday last week due to Halloween

so I apologize, but hope you all had a good time dressing up!

This week's featured artist: Postal Service

When I was younger, instead of going to parties with the rest of the cool kids

I spent my nights at Chain Reaction. (which no longer exists)

It was a small venue that showcased all kinds of different music, the tickets were cheap

and the people were chill.

In college, I met someone that worked at Bionic Records (score!)

so I got the inside scoop on new artists coming out and discounted or free music

Postal Service was one of the free albums I got and from the moment I pushed play

I was smitten!

About 2 weeks after receiving the cd, I was asked to go to a show in LA...

it was Postal Service playing one of the only LIVE shows they ever played.

AND Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley was there too!

This was back in 2003 WAY before they got popular so there were maybe 200 people in the entire venue.

Talk about front row seating!

BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!

I was so incredibly Happy.

They are AMAZING!

They are one of the few bands that are so much better live...the cds just don't do any justice.

Music is very important to the hubby and I, so for our wedding we hand picked every single song that was played. Our first dance was to the acoustic version of Brand New Colony

November is the Month for Giving Back

November.

It always reminds me of the things I am thankful for.

This year there is something different.

The desire to give back.

There are some people in this world that may find it hard to be grateful because

They struggle...and I mean real life struggles

Real life traumas.

As I was searching for organizations to work with

My Heart led me to ThanksUSA

They fund scholarships for families that have been affected by fallen soldiers, so that their spouses and children can have the chance to attend college!

These men and women that serve our country are One of a Kind.

And the Families' strength to watch them walk away to defend is admirable.

Sometimes, they are faced with the reality of never seeing their loved one again.

That is what I call Real Life Struggles.

Two young girls came up with the idea for this organization

Two girls that have bigger hearts in them than most people

So here it is:

Shop for a Cause

My goal for the month of November is to raise funds for this organization
This fundraiser will only run for the month of November, so once the items are gone...they are gone.

I am extremely grateful for the women that have donated items to be in this shop. Their hearts are Huge, their Love for others in undeniable and I am Proud to call them my Friends.

All proceeds from this shop will go to ThanksUSA!

And if you don't see anything in the shop that tickles your fancy, you can donate directly!

My challenge for all of you this November is to give back...whether it is for this organization or another, but please think about everything you have to be grateful for and how others may have nothing.

In one sentence, tell us about yourself?I am astay-at-home mom of three littles, married to a highschool football coach,follower of Christ and lover of anything domestic and thrifty.
When did you open your Etsy shop and why did youdecide on Etsy?I opened a childrens clothing store on Etsy two yearsago. At the time I chose Etsy because that's really all there was. After the birth of my second son I closed down the shop because it wastaking up too much of my time. I have just recently opened up a newlittle shop, The Vanilla Tulip. I am currently working on stocking itwith items that can be purchased for Christmas gifts! I'm trying to makeit a one stop shopping experience for all the women and kids on your Christmaslist.

Is this your hobby, full time job or part time job?My etsy store is just a hobby to make fun money at themoment. My family is my full-time job right now
How do you prioritize your time?My husband and mykids come first before any crafting or sewing. I'm still figuring out howto balance everything. I only sew while the kids are napping or in bedfor the evening.

Name one thing you love and one conflict about blogging?One of the things I love most aboutblogging is the other bloggers I've "met." The bloggingcommunity can be such an encouraging and uplifting place. At the sametime one of the things that I find myself having to check is the comparing thatcan happen in the blogging community. We obviously all put our"best" out there for everyone to see. So I've found it's veryeasy to begin comparing myself to others. My house isn't as pretty... herpictures are better than mine...she's selling more products...etc. It's aslippery slope that I don't want to go down!
What is your favorite topic to write about on yourblog?Motherhood. It's definitely a hard journey but with sweet sweetmoments. It's nice to know there are other moms out there with the samestruggles.

What is your favorite blog to follow?I reallyadore Laura over at Splendor. She is abeautiful woman...inside and out. Her love for the Lord shinesthrough her writing. Her story is heartbreaking but full of hope. And her store is FULL of gorgeous jewelery! Check her out!

I don't know about you, but I feel like this week has been a whirlwind of activities which has left me little to no time for anything craft related.

A Blank Canvas

I am finding a common theme.
As I read TONS of new blogs, thanks to the October Followers Fest, I am finding that everyone has a story
AND
they are not afraid to share it on their blog.

Stories of loss and heartache are everywhere and the friendships they have made with other bloggers that share the same grief are Amazing!

But where do you go if you have no story?
Naturally everyone has ups and downs, but what if you were fortunate enough to not experience the trauma that others have gone through or maybe just not as severe?

Are you destined to be a wall flower who never stands out?
Are you always going to be a blank canvas?

Thank you Rachel over at Cherry Tree Lane for bringing to light that you don't always have to be a follower.
It is not about how many followers, comments or likes you have...rather it's about doing what you want to do and Loving every minute of it.

For me:
I want to provide for my family. I want to be in a healthy and loving marriage. I want to be the best mom I can be. I want to create things. I want to make people smile. I want to be comfortable in my own skin. I want to keep my close friends close, but open my heart to meeting new people. I want to give back to those in need. I want to live my dream, not others.
I am fortunate to have most of the above, but am constantly being tested.

First in Line Friday: Snuggly Monkey

When did you start doing your craft? When did you decide to open a shop?

I started sewing about five and a half years ago, right before my first daughter was born. I first tried to open my shop in June of 2008, but then I became pregnant with my second and life went on pause. I finally really started working on my shop in earnest about 8 months ago.

Who inspired you?

My daughters are my greatest inspiration. I started out making toys (waldorf dolls, cloth blocks) and my shop has changed and evolved over time. My daughters and husband still remain my greatest sources of inspiration though.

What is your favorite piece in your shop and why?

My favorite pieces are my fabric coil baskets. I love making them - it is fun and relaxing and I love how each one turns out a little bit differently. I love making the ones out of upcycled t-shirts because I love giving something that was in the goodwill donation pile a new life. I have most of my "inventory" stored in bins except for my baskets. I tend to keep those out on my sewing table because they make me smile to look at them. I actually just finished a new one tonight that I am quite in love with the color combination.

How do you promote your store?

This is something I am constantly learning about and still feel like a novice. I have experimented with Google and facebook ads a bit. I try to do blog features when I can. I participate in a wide variety of Etsy teams. I use Facebook and Twitter. I participate in BNR/BNS (Buy-and-Replace) treasuries.

What is your favorite blog to follow?

I check out the Secret to Success is Support (SITS Girls) pretty regularly. I love their featured bloggers each day because it has introduced me to a lot of great blogs. Plus it is a nice community of folks.

What advice would you give to other Etsy Store owners?

Be patient, success doesn't happen overnight. Do what you love, strive to provide excellent customer service and the rest should (hopefully) fall in place.
